Essay on Lachit Barphukan

Introduction:- Bir Lachit Barphukan was  an excellent  general who fought against the Mughals. He was born in 1622  within the  name of Pragjyotishpur. He had very successful military career and is credited with driving out  the good  Mughals Assam. His popularity rose at the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.At  that point  Ahom king Pratab Singha appointed Lachit Baphukan. Commander-in-Chief of the Ahom Army. In the battle of Saraighat, Lachit proved his patriotism and devotion to his own country (Ahom Kingdom).  to guard  his country, he even beheaded his own uncle. He employed his uncle to supervise the development  of an earthen wall for fortifications while preparing for battle.

When Lachit  received  the work site for inspection, he found that the work not progress. The barrier was completed during that night, but remained the fortifications are still waiting. When asked  to elucidate , the uncle said fatigue from work, and Lachit became enraged at his carelessness. Lachit Barphukan  his uncle with a sword and said: Dexot koi Mumai Dangor Nohoi (my uncle  isn’t  more precious than my own country).

The day before the battle he had erected  a substantial  line of sand and earth block the way. This was  in order that  the Mughals could be forced to pass throughwaterways of the Brahmaputras river. As a  results of  their superior naval fighting capabilities, flowing streams isolated the Mughals  thanks to  mud and mudslides.The Ahoms had  a plus . His patriotic struggle  within the  17th century saved Assam from capture by the Mughal emperor Aurangageb. When he ordered his fellows to board his bed on the ship to the battlefield. Like as a  results of  his ill health, he died shortly after  the top  of the battle. Its supreme leader applauded Senapati Lachit Borphukan of Assam. Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha built the Lachit Maidam at Hoolungapara 16 km from Jorhat in 1672 as his final resting place for Lachit Borphukan .Assam celebrates Lachit Devas  per annum  to commemorate the heroism of Lachit Barphukans and the victory of the Ahom army at Saraighat on 24 November.

Conclusion:-

Lachit’s patriotism, bravery, conscientiousness and determination shone through history of Assam,  within the  face of retreat from the mighty Manghal army. Lachit also succeeded in restoring and maintaining  the liberty  of his country and people.
